“Waxwing” by Trevor Pottelberg, features a gorgeous Cedar Waxwing posing on a fallen log during a light summer shower.
This image has very special meaning to me. It was captured in the area in which I grew up and where I fell in love with nature.
As a young teen, I spent countless hours exploring this area and watching the wildlife it provided. Each summer I would watch these beautiful birds as they acrobatically captured insects flying by. I remember wishing that I could capture a photo of one as it rested between outings. At the time though, I never had a camera that could do so.
Now, some 30 years later, I was drawn back to this area with no prior intentions or expectations. I had honestly forgot about the beautiful birds and what I had experience all those years ago.
To my amazement, when I arrived at the spot, the birds were in the same area doing the same tricks that I remember from my childhood.
As I sat camouflaged in a nearby tree line, my anticipation grew knowing that I was about to capture a photo of a bird which had meant so much to me. All of those memories came flooding back like time had stood still.
Reflecting back on this recent outing, I’m not 100% sure what lead me back to this spot last week, but I have to believe that fate had something to do with it.
