“The Call of the Wild” by Trevor Pottelberg, featuring a beautiful female Eastern Coyote belting out a haunting greeting song to her mate as he comes toward her after hunting mice in a nearby meadow.
This was my first ever photo of an Eastern Coyote and one that I’ll never forget! I was hiking a nearby trail when I heard fire engine sirens in the distance. Within seconds, I could hear that all too familiar call of an Eastern Coyote coming from the edge of a nearby ravine. Sirens like this often invoke a response from coyotes. I quickly headed in the direction where the call was coming from and was able to locate this beauty in action from a safe distance.
To my surprise, there was a flock of wild turkeys grazing within 10 feet of her with no concerns whatsoever. It made me smile and think, “if they can learn to coexist without fear, why can’t humans do the same?”
